A clear first step for business owners and leaders
Getting started with AI in your business
Find a sensible first step with AI. Clarify the business problem, check your tools and choose a small, practical starting point for your team.
Start with one recurring problem
You do not need an AI strategy for every part of the business before taking a useful first step. You do need a clear task, an appropriate tool and a person responsible for checking the result.
This is for owners and leaders who are curious about AI but need help separating practical options from demonstrations and sales claims.
What might be worth exploring?
Think about work that is repeated, has a clear starting point and can be reviewed by someone who understands it. Illustrative examples include:
- drafting a routine email from approved information;
- turning your notes into a first draft of an internal checklist;
- preparing questions for a customer or supplier meeting; and
- organising an approved brief into an outline for a report.
These are illustrative starting points. We also assess whether a clearer process or simpler automation would solve the problem more effectively.
How ATOM helps you decide
We look at the task, who performs it, the information involved and the tools you already use. Together we identify what would make the result useful, where human judgement is essential and what should stay outside the pilot.
That can lead to practical team training, an adoption plan or a more detailed AI discovery engagement. The next step depends on your needs and readiness.
Your initial engagement
Start with a discovery call with Patrick O’Sullivan, ATOM Digital’s principal consultant and initial contact. Bring one recurring task, the tools involved and a sense of what you want to improve. You do not need a technical brief.
If there is a useful fit, we agree a small review or introductory working session. The scope can include a shortlist of opportunities, basic information-handling boundaries and a recommended first trial. Deliverables, responsibilities and any further work are confirmed before the engagement begins.
Experience that connects technology with operations
Patrick O’Sullivan brings more than 20 years of C-level experience, alongside work in business systems, process improvement and AI governance. That background helps put new tools in a commercial and operational context. Read about ATOM and our existing experience.

Frequently asked questions
Do we need to choose an AI platform first?
No. Start with the task and the information involved. Your current Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or other business tools may already offer capabilities worth assessing.
What if we have a small team or no IT department?
We can begin with a small, clearly scoped task. Where access or security decisions need specialist input, we agree who needs to be involved before proceeding.
Do we have to commit to implementation?
No. Any review, training or pilot has an agreed scope. Further work is a separate decision.
Can you tell us how much time AI will save?
We do not promise a saving before understanding the task. A useful pilot compares effort and quality with the current process, including time spent checking and correcting the result.
A practical next step
